Every year, we try to make improvements to Santa Lucia’s instructional program and environment.  These improvements produce higher quality learning and increase academic performance by our students.  We have a highly skilled and dedicated staff that works together daily to create a great community of learners.  We provide students with a multitude of learning opportunities both in the classroom and with after school support programs and intervention teachers.  

 We know that to achieve educational excellence, we need parent support and participation in each student’s educational program. Students, parents, and school staff must work together if we are to meet the needs of every child. At Santa Lucia we strive to develop strong connections with parents and parent leadership through school groups (English Language Advisory Committee, PTO, School Site Council), schoolwide family activities, interactive and educational field trips, and strong connections and partnerships with the King City and Monterey County communities.\ Our parents' interest and involvement in our school models for our children the importance of school, learning, and establishing high academic and behavioral standards.  Success of our academic program is directly linked to our outstanding staff, active and involved parents, and hard working students. We are committed to building strong skills in literacy and mathematics, using teaching methods and materials that have a proven record for school improvement.  In addition, remedial and enrichment programs and fine arts enhance our strong academic program.

Santa Lucia is a Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) school, and we have a dedicated Leadership Team that helps guide staff, students and the rest of our community toward safe, kind and responsible behaviors each day.  PBIS is a systems approach for assisting school personnel in adopting and organizing evidence-based behavioral interventions into an integrated continuum that enhances academic and social behavior outcomes for all students.  PBIS supports the success of ALL students.  There is a focus on teaching and re-teaching expected behaviors, and supporting the positive decisions students make.  At Santa Lucia School our students are SAFE,  KIND and RESPONSIBLE.  You will hear these three words emphasized throughout the year.

To help students express themselves in positive ways, a Sticks and Stones representative meets with identified students on an individual or small-group basis. We have a part-time certificated teacher who focuses on character education in the classroom, as well as during lunch bunches with targeted students in each grade level.  Monthly assemblies recognize students achieving high levels of success in character development.  Students are also honored daily via the use of Superstar Bucks, recognizing behavior above and beyond expectations.  A 4th-5th grade Student Council  empowers students to have a voice at the school site.  Perfect attendance is recognized on a monthly basis for individual students, and on a daily basis in each classroom. \ Santa Lucia School follows its mission to encourage and inspire students to always be safe, kind and responsible--at school, home, and in our community.
